| APPLICATION INFORMATION AND DEADLINE: Audition times may be requested but can not be guaranteed later in teh process.
Eligibility: Auditions are open to instrumental students through grade 12. Vocalists and previous winners are not eligible. As the United Church cannot accommodate a piano along with the orchestra, we regret that we cannot include piano submissions. Applicants must be residents of Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Onondaga, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, or Yates counties. This year's winner will have the opportunity to perform a solo with the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra during their Spring Concert on Saturday, May 10th, 2025 and receive a cash award of $200. In the event of multiple winners, a cash award of $200 will be awarded to each winner.
Please prepare any ONE movement from a concerto or other composition for solo instrument and orchestra. You must provide our own piano accompanist for the audition.
Send your completed application with a $40 fee payable to FLSO, postmarked no later than January 17th, 2025. Additional applications can be found at www.flso.org . Questions can be directed to David Stern, YAC Coordinator, at d4stern@gmail.com. Important note on audition repertoire selection: Orchestral accompaniment parts must be available in time for rehearsals and at reasonable cost from a music publisher or rental agency in the US. Please check the cost of orchestral sets if playing copyrighted works, so we can determine if our budget can accommodate it. Your school or private music teacher should be able to assist you in verifying this if necessary. Please check into this ahead of time. If parts cannot be obtained within our rehearsal time window or at reasonable cost, the FLSO reserves the right to cancel a performance, or request that a different piece be performed.
Competition procedure: Performing from memory is preferred, but not mandatory. Competition results are final. Candidates will be notified within a week of the auditions.
