YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION 2024

The FLSO Board has decided to go to all DIGITAL applications for this contest.
Please do fill out the application form below and submit it first along with the $40 payment.
You may pay on line (at left) or mail a check made out to FLSO to PO Box 988, Canandaigua, NY 14424 postmarked no later than February 16!
Then record your audition on VIDEO and submit by Friday, March 1 before midnight.
We will evaluate only auditions with paid applications.

To upload your file:
Save your recording in your drive or dropbox etc.
After we have received your application and payment, you will be contacted by the YAC representative with instructions of how to upload your performance. This may be after the March 1 deadline.

ELIGIBILITY: Auditions are open to instrumental students through grade 12, who are residents of Ontario Seneca, Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming or Yates counties. Note: pianists, vocalists, and previous winners are not eligible.

** Piano accompaniment is required for audition**

This year's winner will have the opportunity to perform a solo with the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra during their Spring Concert on April 28, 2024 and receive a cash award of $200. In the event of multiple winners, a cash award of $200 will be awarded to each winner. DIGITAL VIDEO auditions will be evaluated on or about Sunday, March 3.

Please prepare any one movement from a concerto or a composition for solo instrument and orchestra. Only VIDEO recordings can be evaluated. Piano accompaniment is required for audition. Please provide your own accompanist and one digital copy (.pdf please) of your music for the judges. Applicants will be given a maximum of eight minutes.

Send completed application and the $40 fee payable ON LINE or mailed to FLSO, P.O. Box 988, Canandaigua, NY 14424 postmarked no later than Friday, February 16, 2024.

*Note on audition repertoire selection: Due to time and cost restraints, orchestral accompaniment parts must be available at reasonable cost from a music publisher or rental agency in the US. Your school or private music teacher should be able to assist you in verifying this if necessary. Please check into this ahead of time. The FLSO has the right to cancel a performance or request that a different piece be performed if orchestral parts are not easily accessible or too cost prohibitive.

Competition procedure: Performing from memory is preferred, but not mandatory. Competition results are final. Candidates will be notified in writing within a week of auditions.
